Though the clouds may hang over there will be a brighter day in that land, they call heaven God shall wipe all tears away…..
It is with sincere sadness that the Horton Funeral Home Family announces the earthly transition of Mr. Willie Ray Basnight Jr. who peacefully answered the Master's call on January 26,2026 at his residence in Edenton, NC.
Moments have been etched in time for family and friends to pay homage to Willie on Thursday February 5,2026 at 2pm where the Celebration of Life Service will be called to order in the Chapel of Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations with Dr. Darius J. Horton, Officiating. Viewing will take place at Wednesday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
Immediately following the services in the sanctuary, Willie’s delicate temple and cherished family will be escorted to the Beaver Hill Cemetery for interment rights.
Guests are being received at 208 East Peterson Street Edenton, NC 27932 where they will also assemble in preparation for the Prestigious Horton Ebony Motorcade.
Although Willie closed the drapes on this daily walk called life, those whom he loved and loved him can find solace knowing, he has walked into the Garden of Rest where everyday is as peaceful and beautiful as a bright Sunday morning and the sunlight brightens the day from the rays of our Heavenly Father.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Tyesha Long (Randy Long), Ynika Fleming, Myisha Basnight, Willette Basnight, Derrick Jernigan, and Tony Basnight; his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings: Johnny Basnight, Raleigh Basnight, Ivey Basnight, Martha Gregory, and Danny Bembury (Florence); his godchild, Jackie Ford; his devoted caregiver and niece, Kelly Chesson; and two special nurses, Natalie Holley and Heather, whose care and compassion meant so much to him. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Compassionate Professionals at Horton Funeral Home and Cremations are humbled to be a part of this precious family and serve them with uncompromising dignity and love during this difficult time.
Goodnight “Willie”...Rest Well, we will see you in the morning.
