With humbled hearts and consoling minds, the Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations Family serves notice that Mrs. Thelma Lee Walton Shannon affectionately called “Bigg Momma” laid down the cares of this world on Sunday, October 26,2025 at ECU Medical Center Greenville, NC From there, she picked up her new wardrobe and golden keys for her everlasting life in Heaven.
The Glorious and Triumphant Life Celebration events have been methodically orchestrated and will proceed in the following order. Beginning on Monday November 3,2025 between the hours of 4pm and 6pm at Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations, “Bigg Momma”will lie in state for a final glimpse for family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Tuesday November 4,2025 at 1pm at Greater Welch’s Chapel Baptist Church Tyner, NC with Pastor Carolyn Griffin,officiating.
Immediately following the order of service, an intimate Committal Service will come forth in the Greater Welch’s Chapel Baptist Church. It is in this place that her physical temple will remain until time is called into eternity and those who are sleep in Christ will rise first to meet Him in the air.
Although it will be a major adjustment for “Bigg Momma’s”relatives with her no longer being present to enjoy precious moments, all can find comfort realizing she is sitting at the Welcome Table with all of the saints that have gone on before her, beholding the Master’s Glory as she receives her golden keys and her crown of righteousness.
Guest are being received at 117 Cannons Ferry Rd, Tyner NC 27980 where they will also assemble in preparation for the Prestigious Horton Ebony Motorcade.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother, Annie Mae Elliott of Tyner; her devoted companion, Johnnie M. Rountree of Tyner; her daughter, Tonia Walton (Michael) of Tyner; her son, Lamont Walton (Tasha) of Tyner; five sisters, Denise Holley (Damaris), Allison Holley, and Ruth Holley of New York, Essie Northfleet of Edenton, Sharon Flemming of Tyner, and Carol Dillard of Hertford; two brothers, Earl Holley (Lirio) of New York and James Holley of Tyner; one aunt, Routina Elliott (Larry) of Edenton; her sister-in-law, Minnie Britt of Tyner; and her
brother-in-law, Jose Alvarado of Tyner. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Essence Walton of Tyner, Orlandria Walton (Tre) of Clayton, Rufus Walton of Belvidere, Michael Walton of Belvidere, and Princess Cofield of Tyner; two great-grandchildren, Skylar White of Tyner and De'Orr Tripp of Clayton; godchildren, Shenika Privott of Tyner and Ahmed of Virginia; and a special young man dear to her heart, Kelvonte Parks and Ra'Quan Kee.
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will also cherish her memory.
