With sincere compassion and concern, the Horton Family stands hand in hand with the relatives of Ms. Sherry Ann Banks as they prepare to celebrate her lasting legacy. Ms. Banks transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
Services commemorating this priceless gem will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1pm at Pleasant Branch Missionary Baptist Church Powells Point, NC with Reverend James McCoy, Pastor and Bishop Aleus Lee, Eulogist. Immediately following the services in the Sanctuary, Ms. Banks' earthen vessel along with her cherished family will be escorted to Moore Family Cemetery for committal rights.
As hard as it will be for Sherry’s loved ones to depart without her, God our Heavenly Father promised to give peace that will surpass all of our understanding even in the midst of grief and sorrow. The hymnologist said it best... when he put pen to parchment writing.... “We’ll understand it better all by and by.”
Sherry Ann Banks was born in Currituck County, North Carolina on January 13, 1960 to the late William Friley Moore and the late Maggie Annette Banks Bailey. Sherry attended Currituck County schools and later moved to Delaware where she made her home and raised her family.
Sherry was passionate about rearing young children and providing childcare for working families. She was the proud owner of “Sherry’s Little Angels” daycare for over a decade. She loved all children like her own. Sherry also found true happiness while cooking and catering for others…she loved to host a party and be the life of a party! Sherry’s true pride and joy came each year as she diligently planned, directed and implemented the annual Banks/Harvey Family Reunion held during the last weekend in August. No one could fry a crab like Sherry! Although we did not dance the night away on the Crystal Dawn boat cruise this year (a Sherry tradition!), it is an honor and blessing to the family that Sherry gained her wings after celebrating and fellowshipping with the entire extended family during the annual family reunion.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents (Maggie and Friley); her maternal grandparents, George H. Banks and Senie O. Banks; paternal grandparents, William Guritha Moore and Edna Blanche Norman Moore; her stepfather Howard Bailey, Sr.; her brothers Thomas LeRoy Saunders, Anthony Bailey and Alfred Bailey; her aunts Carrie McClease, Qulur Bell, Senie Banks Everette, Ethel Pearl Garshaw, Dorothy Banks, and Edna Mae Winslow; and her uncles Larry Banks, George Banks, Thomas Norman, Wilbert Brown, and Sherman Malachi Moore.
Sherry is survived by her adored children: Deon Lee Simmons (Chrissy) of Manteo, NC; Darrell Donte Banks (Tia) of Laurel, DE; and DeShawn Dwayne Banks (Stephanie) of Manteo, NC; and her beloved Goddaughter Diamond Monay Turner of Philadelphia, PA. She leaves behind sixteen (16) grandchildren that affectionately call her “Mom-Mom”: Darrell, Jr., A’niya, Keith, Deasia, Destiny, Ke’Ryha, A’laziah, and Makayla Banks; Markus and Devon Simmons; Zatavion, Jalaunis, and Duvale Williams and Kingzley Banks; and Khairi Turner and Desire McCray; and one (1) great grandchild: My’lah Banks.
Also left to cherish Sherry’s memory are her loving and faithful aunts and uncles: Norma Williams, Clara Jean Banks, Cordelia Riddick (John), Melva Banks, Phillis Brown, John Timothy Banks, and Angerona Saunders (Augustus); her stepsiblings: Howard Bailey, Jr. (Sandra), Albert Bailey (Patsy), Elmer Bailey, Felicia Bailey, Howard Neal (Coretta), and Eddie Neal; her life partner, Reginald Barrington; her best friend/cousin/ “sister”: Lucy Tillett; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.
