Roger Dean Hodges Sr.

Roger Dean Hodges Sr. 66, passed away on November 17, 2025 in Hertford, North Carolina. Born on December 29, 1958 in Virginia, he lived a life marked by service, hard work, and deep devotion to those around him.
 

Roger proudly served in the Unites States Navy for 10 years. His time in the military shaped his strong sense of duty and resilience. After completing his service, he transitioned into a career in construction, where he continued to apply his dedication and work ethic.

Roger was a man who valued connection and community. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends at a local gathering spots like The Blue Jacket and George Washington Tavern both in Portsmouth, Va. These moments of camaraderie were among his favorites and reflected his warm-hearted nature.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Susan; his children Roger Jr, Tonya, and David Sr; and all those whose lives he touched with his kindness and care and many family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nell Barnes and James Hodges Jr., as well as his son Tony. In his final days, Roger was cared for with compassion by his roommates Susan and Rosemary.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to them and to the staff at Hertford Rehabilitation and Healthcare for their attentive support during this time. The family will set up a memorial service for Roger's final resting place in South Carolina beside his mom. May Roger's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life lived with love, loyalty, and strength.
