Matthew Fields Jr.

As all remain in extreme sorrow and astonishing disbelief, the Horton’s Funeral Home Family joins with the family of Mr. Matthew Fields Jr.  as they prepare to say, “Until We Reunite."  Mr. Fields transitioned from this Life on Monday, July 22, 2024.

The heartbreaking task of planning the Life Remembering services for Matthew have been finalized and will commence on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11am at First Zion Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Taurean Walston, Officiating. Mr. Fields will lie in peaceful repose from 10am until time of service. 

Immediately following the formalities in the sanctuary, Mr. Fields physical temple along with his adored family, will be escorted to the Simmons Cemetery for Interment Rites. 

As hard as it will be for Matthew’s loved ones to depart without him, God our Heavenly Father promised to give peace that will surpass all of our understanding even in the midst of grief and sorrow. The hymnologist said it best... when he put pen to parchment writing....We’ll understand it better all by and by.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Henry, Bobby Ray, Noah and James.

He leaves to cherish his memory, three children: Colette (William) Wynn, Shawnette Fields and Brian Fields; five grandchildren, Taurean, Shamiya, Sharnice, Kaiden and Khloe; one great-grandchild, Tori Nicole.  He also leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Alice Jones, Sherlene Attoch and Mable Fields; two brothers, Rev. Sammy (Tavonda) Fields and Avondale (Regina) Fields; four aunts: Ruth Patrick, Doris Jean (George) Norman, Willie Mae Purvis, Delores Purvis, and one uncle: David Purvis.  Matthew also leaves his longtime companion, Gertude Wynn and family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
