With loving arms of compassion, The Horton Funeral Home and Cremation Family is consoling the heartbroken loved ones of Mary Jane Whidbee Carter as they prepare to take a journey that no family wishes to take. Mrs. Carter answered the "Master's Call" and left this world to join those who has gone before her on December 4,2022 at the Sentara Obici Hospital Suffolk, VA.

On Friday, December 9,2022 between the hours of 5pm and 7pm, Mrs. Carter will lie in peaceful repose for those who wish to spend moments with her and her devoted family, during a visitation, that will be held in the viewing Parlor of the Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations.

The “Dash” between Mrs. Mary Jane’s year of birth and year of leaving this world will be honored on Saturday December 10,2022 at 2pm in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Missionary Church Hertford, NC with her son-in-law Rev. Tyrone Smith, officiating.

Following the Order of Divine Worship in the sanctuary, Mrs. Carter’s delicate temple, along with her cherished relatives, will be escorted to the Porters Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church cemetery for Interment Rites.

She was a devoted wife to the late Alvin Carter and mother to 10 children. She leaves to cherish her memories seven daughters, Mildred Hollowell (Joe), Linda Frost (Curles), Peggy Brothers (Calvin), Mary Lee Parker (Earnest), Rose Bogues (Donald – Deceased), Dora Smith (Tyrone), and Mary Jane Skinner (Tony); son, Alvin Jr. (Tawanna); three sisters, Eula Martin , Essie Davis and Katie Spellman and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was proceeded in her death by her children, Dorothy Whidbee (Raymond) and Oliva Kee (Elmar); siblings, Elizabeth Boone, Beatrice Coleman, Nora Johnson, George Whidbee, Gilbert Whidbee, Ella Louise Whidbee and George Riley (BUD) Whidbee.
