May the works I've done speak for me.
When I′m resting in my grave,
There's nothing more to be said;
May the works I've done
Let it speak for me…..
Mother Mabel Louise Burton Porter of Manteo, NC no longer answers to her name on this side of the Jordan and the Horton’s Servants of Service are comforting her heartbroken loved ones with sincere compassion. Mother Mabel Louise Burton Porter wrote the last sentence of her “Life Sketch” on Friday, May 9,2025 at her residence.
The heartbreaking task of planning the Life Remembering services for Mrs. Porter have been finalized and will commence on Wednesday May 14, 2025 at 12noon with a Triumphant Homegoing Celebration at Manteo First Assembly in Manteo, NC with Elder T. J. Etheridge delivering the Eulogy.
Following the order of service, Mother Mabel’s physical temple along with her cherished loved ones will be escorted to the Free Grace Church Cemetery for Interment Rites. Although Mrs. Mabel’s family will leave that earthly resting place without this virtuous woman, they will rest knowing that she is now among the Heavenly Hosts singing that glorious hymn "When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory."
Mabel leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters, First Lady Doris B. Smith (Bishop Alton Smith), Diane Simms (John), Deborah Burton, and Betty Selby (Anthony); and five sons: Harris Burton, James “Nat” Burton, Larry Burton, George Govan, and Bobby Govan (Kelleta); her loving sisters, Ethel Bowser, Gloria Burton, Aquilla Bryant (Matthew), and Priscilla Hardy; 30 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Guests are being received at 103 North California Lane Manteo, NC where they will also assemble in preparation for the Prestigious Horton Ebony Motorcade.
The compassionate professionals at Horton’s Funeral Homes and Cremations are working around the clock to ensure that the Porter and connected families every need is attended too.
