Bowing in humbled submission to the will of our Heavenly Father, it has become the solemn responsibility of Hortons Funeral Home and Cremations to inform all that Linwood Sterling Jones affectionately called “Sterl”is now resting in Paradise. Linwood put down the cares of this Life on July 8,2024 at his residence in Elizabeth City, NC.

Viewing and visitation will take place on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations from 4 to 6 PM. On  Saturday July 20,2024  beginning at 10 A.M. a Celebratory Service of Remembrance will be held at Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Kera Johnson, officiating. During this time, family and visitors can reminisce on the days of old and embrace everlasting memories, while beginning the healing process as a result of this devastating loss. 

Following the Life honoring services in the sanctuary, Mr. Jones along with his adored family, will be escorted to his earthly resting place in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. 

As hard as it will be for Sterl’s loved ones to depart without him, God our Heavenly Father promised to give peace that will surpass all of our understanding even in the midst of grief and sorrow. The hymnologist said it best... when he put pen to parchment writing.... “We’ll understand it better all by and by.”

Linwood leaves to mourn his passing mother, Elly Mae Stokley-Jones; father, Carl R. Jones; aunts,Corrine Stokley Woolaston (Sissy), Theresa Stokley-Bates (Reasie);cousin, Gregory Wade Bates Jr., uncle Warren Stokley; and a host of great aunts, uncles,cousins and friends.
