Joyce Rhodes Obituary

At the request of those left to cherish loving memories, The Horton Funeral Home Family serves notice that Mrs. Joyce Rhodes of Edenton, NC has ceased from troubling with the cares of this world as she departed this life and entered into everlasting peace.

Joyce was born March 15, 1958 to the late Allen & Ida Rhodes.  Joyce was preceded in death by her sister, Rev. Reva Rhodes-Takuro, Janie Sanders and brothers Joe Rhodes and Stanley Rhodes.

Joyce attended Elizabeth City State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Art. In her early career, she taught art in the Richmond, VA school system. She continued teaching for a few years after moving back to North Carolina. Joyce was extremely talented when it came to drawing and creative with crafts. Her hobbies included drawing, creating crafts, reading, listening to music, and playing the Recorder.

Joyce was a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Edenton, NC and has been a Jehovah’s Witness for over 30 years.  Joyce loved to witness to all those she encountered. Her love for Jehovah was known by those who knew her. Reading the Bible and Jehovah’s Witnesses publications is what she truly enjoyed and loved to do in her spare time because it kept her knowledgeable and aided her in her calling to witness to others.

Joyce had a laugh that was unforgettable and is most memorable as being kind, considerate, selfless, genuine, loving, caring, and gentle.  She enjoyed helping others in any way she could. She truly enjoyed visiting the elderly, sick, and shut-in to put a smile on their faces and show support in any way she could. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.

To cherish her loving memory Joyce leaves her daughter Lakesha Rhodes of Bristow, VA. Six sisters Merlene Simpson of  Columbia, NC, Hazel Simpson of Richmond, VA, Kinnell & husband Rev.
