The moment has come and the Horton’s Funeral Home Family has been given the solemn duty to announce that Mr. James Joseph Felton Sr., is no longer troubled with the cares of this world but he is now resting among the Heavenly Host. Mr. Felton began his Life of everlasting peace on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The Celebration of Life Service honoring Mr. Felton’s legacy will take place Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church at 12Noon with Apostle Henry Jackson, Eulogist. Mr. Felton will lie in peaceful repose from 11am until time of service.
Immediately following the order of service, a Committal Service will come forth in the Porter’s Chapel Church Cemetery. It is in this place that his physical temple will remain until time is called into eternity and those who are sleep in Christ will rise first to meet Him in the air.
Guests are being received at the residence of the deceased at 3132 New Hope Rd. Hertford, NC 27944 where they will also assemble in preparation for the Prestigious Horton Ebony Motorcade.
James leaves to honor and cherish his memory a loving wife of 56 years, Hazel O. Felton, son, James Joseph Felton, Jr. (Torva) Greensboro, NC, one grandson; Derel J. Felton, Greensboro, NC, five granddaughters; Samone J. Felton, Essence Wall, Jordyn, Taryn, and Jazmyn Felton, Greensboro, NC, three brothers; Wilbert L. Felton, Elizabeth City, NC, Willie L. Felton (Terri), Stone Mountain, Georgia, Alvin S. Felton, Elizabeth City, NC, four sisters; Helen V. Hoffler, Fayetteville, NC, Joyce. F. Frost (Kelvin), Hertford, NC, Katie Ruffin, Elizabeth City, NC, Richervard Hutton (Bobby), Virginia Beach, VA and a host of nephews; Alvin S. Johnson and many more nephews,nieces, cousins, loved ones, and friends. James’ father, Steve Felton, Sr., mother, Helen R. Felton, daughter, Sharlene M. Felton, brothers, Steve Felton, Jr. and Richard B. Felton preceded him in death.
Although James exited this walk called life and left a void in his family that no one but God can fill, they can find comfort knowing that if James could leave any consolation, it would be these Lord-like lyrics: I’m free....praise the Lord I’m free....I’m no longer bound, there no more chains holding me...for my soul is resting, it’s just a blessing.......praise the Lord, Hallelujah.....I’m free.
