James Edward White Sr.

Though the clouds may hang over  there will be a brighter day  in that land, they call heaven  God shall wipe all tears away….. 

With sincere compassion and concern, the Horton Family stands hand in hand with the relatives of Mr. James Edward White Sr. as they prepare to celebrate his lasting legacy. Mr. White transitioned into eternal rest on December 3,2025 receiving his heavenly summons while resting at ECU Medical Center Greenvile, NC

Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday December 14,2025 at 2 P.M. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church Creswell, NC with Rev. Tyrone Harrison,officiating. Viewing and Visitation will take place Saturday December 13,2025 from 5pm-7pm at Horton’s Memorial Chapel Columbia, NC.  It will be an adjustment for Mr. White’s family and friends not being able to spend time with him any longer while here.  However, the silver lining is just as the songwriter penned, “When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus we will sing and shout the victory.” 

Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. White’s delicate temple along with his adored family will be escorted to the St. John Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery for committal rights. 

Guests are being received at 2751 Davenport Fork Road Creswell, NC 27928 where they will also assemble in preparation for the Prestigious Horton Ebony Motorcade.

James is preceded in death by eleven siblings; one grandchild, Shanika White; two great-grandkids, Camden White, Ah'Kyng Hill; and one son-in-law Carl McCray.

James leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 52 years Bernie White, of the home; six children, Lula White (Robert) Rocky Mount NC, Mary McCray Roper NC, Deacon Molly Belcher (Mike) Knightdale, NC, Archie Phelps (Tracie), South Carolina, Fredricia Phelps (Fred) Garner, NC, James White Jr. (Shakeia)  South Carolina. He also leaves behind one sister Mary Jones (Herbert) Roper, NC and one bonus brother Danny Jones (Natalie) Raleigh, NC.

He leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

James has a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends and one bonus son, Adam Phelps of Powell Point NC. He also leaves two fur grand dogs behind that he loved to see when they came home to visit Roscoe and Dynasty.
