Etta Mae (Parks) Giles

Though the clouds may hang over  there will be a brighter day  in that land, they call heaven  God shall wipe all tears away….. 

With an abundance of love and concern, the Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations Family is embracing the loved ones of Mrs. Etta Mae Parks Giles affectionately known as “Bright Eyes” as they prepare to say “Farewell” to a link to their family chain. Mrs. Giles closed the curtains on this journey called life Saturday, September 6, 2025 at ECU Health Chowan Hospital. 

Services to commemorate Etta’s Life will begin with a Celebration of Life Service on Monday, September 15, 2025 beginning at 12Noon at Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations Chapel. Mrs. Giles will lie in peaceful repose from 11am until time of service. During this time, family and visitors can reminisce on the days of old and embrace everlasting memories, while beginning the healing process as a result of this devastating loss. 

Although Etta closed the drapes on this daily walk called life, those whom she loved and loved her can find solace knowing, she has walked into the Garden of Rest where everyday is as peaceful and beautiful as a bright Sunday morning and the sunlight brightens the day from the rays of our Heavenly Father.

Etta leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through her son Larry Parks; her brother Vernon Parks; sister Janet Parks; five grandchildren: Khalil, Symphony, Dajour, LaVette, & Anissa, Five great-grandchildren: Kharlie, Namijea’, Dajour Jr., Nazyias, and Kashton. She also held a special bond with her favorite niece Aisha. Her extended family includes In-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will continue to carry forward the light she brought into their lives. She now joins in rest with her daughter Natalie, two siblingsAnnie (Spook) & John Lee (Blue)—who preceded her in death.

The professionals at Horton’s Funeral Home and Cremations are accommodating each request and personal desire of the Giles and connected families.
