With tender hearts and compassionate hands, the Horton’s  Funeral Home Family announces the earthy transition of a gentle soul, Douglas Hugh Rice quietly stepped out of life's backdoor to meet his Heavenly Father on Wednesday September 11,2024 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount,NC.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, September 17,2024 at 1pm in the Chapel of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church Elizabeth City,NC. Viewing will take place from 12noon until time of service. During this time, family and visitors can reminisce on the days of old and embrace everlasting memories, while beginning the healing process as a result of this devastating loss. As hard as it will be for loved ones to depart without him, God our Heavenly Father promised to give peace that will surpass all of our understanding even in the midst of grief and sorrow. The hymnologist said it best... when he put pen to parchment writing.... “We’ll understand it better all by and by.”

Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Rice’s delicate temple along with his adored family will be escorted to the Dove Landing Cemetery for committal rights.

Mr. Rice is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Hattie Rice. He is survived by his siblings, Rosetta Lamb and her husband Ronald Lamb of Newport News, VA, Robert Earl White of Charlotte N.C.; two aunts, Doris Brown of Elizabeth City NC, Gladys Overton of Riverside, California, uncle Lennard Bartlett Sr. of Elizabeth City NC. and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
