Debbie Jean Bowen Cochran was born October 1st, 1957 in The Bertie Memorial Hospital which is now known as the Cashie Apartments. Debbie transitioned from this life on July 2, 2022 after a year long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. As the powers that be would have it, Debbie took her last breath in the same building she took her first.
She graduated from Bertie County High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. Debbie attended Atlantic Christian College of Wilson, NC then came home to work with her father. I remember stories of her picking tobacco and others of her traveling with her dad for work. Meeting all kinds of people. Among these people she met Lyn and got to have her first encounter with a spirit. She helped with the construction of the old Walmart which is now home to Roses Discount Store. Debbie enjoyed fishing and loved admiring the beauty of the mountains and the ocean. But most of all Debbie loved people. Her love for people and helping others led her to become an EMT and later a CNA.
She worked many years on transport, then at Cherry Hospital of Goldsboro. She even took time away to help animals at Wayne County animal shelter. When she moved back to Windsor she started her career as a CNA. Being able to help older folks was most certainly her calling.
Debbie was proceeded in death by her father, Wheeler Bowen; Grandmother, Florian Stephenson; and a sister Donna Bowen.
Survived by her daughter, Selene Cochran mate (David), brother Steve Bowen wife (Anita), and mother Jane Bowen.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 18, 2022 from 2:30pm-8:00pm at the Bob Martin Agricultural Center. 2900 NC-125 Williamston, NC 27892
