Catherine Artis Obituary

Catherine Artis, affectionately known as “Cat” was born on Monday, November 10, 1941, in Perquimans County, North Carolina to the late Robert Holley and Tallue Nixon. She was suddenly called to eternal rest on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Catherine accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saunders Grove Baptist Church in Herford, North Carolina. She was educated in Perquimans County Public Schools. As a young woman, Cat followed in her sister, Tina’s footsteps and moved to Newark, New Jersey in search of promising career opportunities. She had successful careers working at Moldcast Lighting and Hoffman LaRoche.

On March 21, 1961 Catherine gave birth to Curtis Dean Holley, her only child. She later wed William Henry Artis on January 29, 1965.

Catherine was an avid bingo player. Through her love for playing bingo, she formed many lifelong friendships. Cat had to play bingo weekly and would even go play while visiting her son and grandchildren in Maryland. Cat also loved working with children. She truly enjoyed the kids and cherished the friendships made with her co-workers while working at World of Kiddie Kingdom and Elbanna Kids Bus Company.
