May the works I've done speak for me.
When I′m resting in my grave,
There's nothing more to be said;
May the works the works I've done
Let it speak for me, for me…..
Mrs. Carole Genolia Hughes of Capitol Heights, MD no longer answers to her name on this side of the Jordan and the Horton’s Servants of Service are comforting her heartbroken loved ones with sincere compassion. Mrs. Hughes wrote the last sentence of her “Life Sketch” on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
The heartbreaking task of planning the Life Remembering services for Mrs. Hughes have been finalized and will commence on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 12Noon with a Triumphant Homegoing Celebration at Kent Baptist Church in Landover, MD. Mrs. Hughes will lie in state from 11am until time of service. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Philadelphia Baptist Church at 12Noon, with Pastor Tavonda Fields, Eulogist. Mrs. Hughes will lie in state from 11am until time of service.
Following the order of service, Mrs. Hughes’ physical temple along with her cherished loved ones will be escorted to the Hughes Family Cemetery for Interment Rites. Although Mrs. Hughes’ family will leave that earthly resting place without this virtuous woman, they will rest knowing that she is now among the Heavenly Hosts singing that glorious hymn "When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory."
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Tony Lamb (Roxanne Lamb) of Richmond, Virginia, and Victor Hughes (Shawna Hughes) of Clinton, Maryland, two daughters, Cecelia “Yvonne” Hughes of LaPlata, Maryland, and Charlotte “Yvette” Hughes of Bowie, Maryland, seven beloved grandchildren, Vicquishea “Shea” Stokes, Camille Dickerson, Ynisha Robinson, Jaxon Lamb, Jasmine Brown, Malcolm Brown, and Courtney Hughes, and five precious great-grandchildren, Jewel Brown, Ari Lee, Amani Lee, Victoria “Tori” Ward, and Emmanuel “Manny” Ave. She is also survived by two aunts, Hattie Lamb of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Annie Lamb of Long Island, New York, along with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends.
The compassionate professionals at Horton’s Funeral Homes and Cremations are working around the clock to ensure that the Hughes and connected families every need is attended too.
