Carl Henry Piland ,74, formerly of Winton, NC died Monday, August 28, 2023 at his home in Ahoskie, NC. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 9, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Winton Baptist Church.
Carl Henry spent his early years working at the station that he eventually owned in Winton, NC. He was known for helping others and giving people, who needed help, the shirt off his own back. He left the station to go into logging for his cousins at G.E. Piland & Sons. He was a truck driver and mechanic while he worked there. Carl Henry went on to work at R.W. White and Sons as a mechanic and truck driver until retirement.
Carl Henry was a lifelong member of Winton Baptist Church in Winton, NC. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Director, Youth Director, and Brotherhood Member. He was a member of Winton Fire Department for 28 years where he served as Chief for several years. He was an integral part of R. C. SAFE for years as a volunteer. He answered calls on the crisis line, and went on calls with his wife, Connie. With his family, Carl Henry helped foster a number of children over the years.
Carl Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Connie Edwards Piland, parents Henry and Helen Piland, in-laws Charles and Margaret Edwards, and nephew Drew Piland.
He is survived by his daughter, Leigh Piland and son, Clay Piland and wife Tammy and three granddaughters, Carly, Casey, and Cally Piland. He is also survived by his three brothers and their wives, Keith and Wanda Piland,Stephen and Marti Piland, and Mike and Karen Edwards. He is also survived by three nephews: Cole Piland, Joshua Piland, and Chris Edwards (Emily) Edwards. He is also survived by four nieces Meagan Piland Overman (West), Kristen Edwards Barrieau (Jason), Camryn Piland and Courtney Edwards Pierce (Aaron). Also survived by five great-nephews, Turner Overman, Jadon Edwards, Oliver Edwards, Drake Barrieau, and Matthew Pierce. Also left behind are two great-nieces, Sofia Edwards and Mara Edwards. He is also survived by his best friend, hunting partner, and adopted brother John Parker, ( John Parker Piland).
The family will be receiving at the home of Clay Piland between 7-9 pm nightly.
