Ana Santiago Obituary

On Thursday, May 25, 2023,  Ana "Betty" Santiago (Navarro) passed away peacefully in Windsor, North Carolina at the age of 86.

She was born in San Jacinto, Bolivar, a department of Colombia, in South America to her parents Jose and Ana R. Navarro. Betty was known to be a brave woman with a great sense of determination and an unwavering love for her children. She has been described as adventurous, bold, charismatic, and above all, tenacious. She loved to dance, socialize, celebrate life, and enjoyed weekends at the beach in her earlier years. Betty grew up in Colombia with her sisters and brothers who she loved very much. After reaching adulthood, she decided to migrate to the United States to explore the world outside of Colombia. With no English language skills, and little knowledge of the American culture, she knew the best way to get through life in the United States, was doing what she knew best, working in the jewelry business. She established herself in the Diamond District in New York City and worked hard to earn a reputation of trustworthiness and dedication. After a successful career,  decided to slow down the pace and changed paths to the healthcare industry. Betty worked in the Jewish community for many years. She moved to North Carolina to be among her immediate family. Anyone who came across her, was blessed with words of encouragement to reach their dreams and goals.

Betty was a fierce, independent woman, dedicated mother, devoted wife, and loving grandmother. She was a family leader and honored her role with gestures of love and understanding. Our family would not be where it is today, without her. She is survived by her children, Alexander and Cynthia; her grandchildren, Tiffany (Jean), Samantha, Juliet, and Daniel; and great grandchild, Vincent. She also leaves behind a strong, extensive family all over Colombia including her siblings Pedro, Carlos, and Elda. She was predeceased by her siblings, Lucas, Jose, and Elsa. Though she will be missed, she lives on in the hearts of those who were so fortunate to have known her.

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life event in Colombia as well as in North Carolina.
