Ms. Rosa Catherine Spencer (Rose) was born January 12, 1935 to the late Sam and Emma E. Spencer in Lake Landing, NC.Rosa Catherine Spencer resided at 150 Pleasant Grove Road, Engelhard, NC 27824 after retiring from Brooklyn, NY in the 1985.  She departed this life on April 28, 2017 at the Vidant Beaufort Hospital, Washington, NC. 

Celebration of life will take place on Saturday May 6,2017 at 2pm at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev.Dr. W. Michael Smith, Pastor and Elder George Merrick, Eulogist. She will lie in state from 1pm until time of service.

Rose was educated in the Hyde County School System and graduated from Davis High School ,Engelhard, NC in May of 1953.  She then moved to Brooklyn, NY. At an early age she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Pleasants Grove Baptist Church in Engelhard, N.C. After moving to Brooklyn, NY In late 1960s, Sister Rose was re-baptized “In Jesus’ Name” and received the Holy Spirit at The Greater Bibleway Temple of Brooklyn, NY under the pastorate of Apostle Huie L. Rogers.  She later became a social missionary under the tutelage Apostle Huie L.Rogers.  There she remained faithful to Greater Bibleway even after retiring to North Carolina in 1985. While residing in New York she continued her education and received a Cosmetology license from the City of NY.  She was employed by the State of NY at its Adult Learning and Rehabilitation Center in Brooklyn NY. Upon moving to North Carolina, she united with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Engelhard NC and retaining religious guidance given to by The Greater Bibleway Temple.  She remained a faithful to both her “parent” church and “home” church until her passing.Rose was predeceased by two brothers Jodie Spencer and George Spencer and a sister Juanita Virginia Midgette and a “special niece” Vivian Irene Midgette. 

Those left to cherish her fond joyful memories are her Nephews – Anthony L. Midgette (Gale) of Virginia Beach, VA, Larry Midgette (Theresa) of Engelhard, NC, Niece – Judith A. Spencer of Engelhard, NC.  She likewise leaves her , as she calls them "Great Nieces”  Cathy Midgette , Jakeema Spencer, Melanie Beckwith (Christopher), Tequila Midgette,Shene Midgette, Juanita Spencer and Karrie Midgette;  Great Nephew – Omari Midgette ; and two whom she called “ultra-unique personalities” – Taylor Pigram ( whom she call “T”) and Fatimah Rashad and also Hollis Thomas (whom she called her man). Last but not least of these – her “guiding sparrow”, that one spicy lady whom she affectionally calls “Aunt Gladys” and mother in the “Spirit” Gladys Adam-Midgette (her mother’s sister).  Rose leaves behind a “3rd”and “4th” Generation of great nieces and nephews of whom she loved. Included are a host of cousins (both near and far), friends and associates;  especially the one she called “Josie” Josephine Spencer.  She leave behind Justin Crews (Godson) of Brooklyn NY and two Sisters in Christ whom she dearly loved –  Mayola Crews of Brooklyn NY and Edna Norfleet of Eure NC.

Mrs. Spencer‘s remains rest in the care and comfort of Hortons Funeral And Cremations Hertford, NC Rev. Darius J.Horton, Funeral Director
