DONALD WILLIAM MEEKINS, transitioned from this mortal life to glory on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Donald was born to the late Nicholas L. Meekins and Mabal Virginia Williams Meekins. Donald was affectionately known as “Red” to his family and friends.
Donald received his education at the Manteo Public Schools. He was employed by Maola Milk, City Beverages, and several restaurants in Dare County. He joined Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church,at an early age.
Donald leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Josie Gregory Meekins of the home; two daughters: Virginia Meekins of Washington, NC and Francis Murray of Durham, NC. One son, Jayten McMurran of the home; three grandchildren: Zahkirah Shadiamond Blount, Zavion William Blount, and Zamara Amiri Murray, all of Durham, NC; nine step-children and 28 step-grandchildren, of Manteo, NC; four brothers: Patrick Meekins of Charlotte, NC, Nicholas Meekins, Jr., Christopher Meekins, and Timothy Meekins, all of Richmond, VA; seven sisters: Pastor Thelma M. Owens (Jesse) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Renee’ Gillian, Angela Gillian, both of Washington, DC; Thomasina Burton, Kathy M. Allan (Joseph), Wilma M. Williams (Tim), all of Richmond, VA; Gloria M. Green of Greenville, SC; two step-sisters: Renese Flowers and L’Tanya Murray, both of Manteo, NC; one uncle, Theodore R. Meekins of Currituck, NC; one aunt, Wilma M. Keys (Lenwood) of Washington, DC; a special sister, Elder Kimberly Ferebee; longtime close friends: Golet Jennette, Alton Tillett, and Nathaniel Burton; and a host of relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life will take place at Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church Wednesday February 1,2017 at 1pm with Rev. Ray Hill, Pastor and Rev. Leon Cradle, Eulogist. He will lie in state from 12 noon until time of services.
